Privacy Policy — MyShipDiary
Last updated: 21 May 2026
MyShipDiary (“the app”) is a personal diary application. Your privacy matters. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does and does not do with your information.
TL;DR
- The app stores everything on your phone.
- The app does not have a server. The developer never sees your entries, your photos, or anything else you type.
- The app does not include analytics, tracking, or advertising.
- The only time anything leaves your phone is when you tap an “export” or “share” button.
What the app stores
The app keeps the following on your device only:
- Diary entries (text, dates, tags, mood)
- Photos you attach to entries (copied into the app’s private storage)
- Your partner’s name, photo, and the notes you add about them
- Custom tags, dashboard widgets, shortcuts, theme + font preferences
- The optional PIN you may set to lock the app
This data is stored in the app’s private storage area on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere automatically.
What the app does not do
- It does not have a backend server.
- It does not collect analytics or telemetry of any kind.
- It does not show ads.
- It does not share your data with any third party.
- It does not track your location.
- It does not access your contacts, calendar, microphone, or anything else beyond what’s listed below.
Permissions the app requests
- Photos / media — to let you attach pictures to entries and choose a profile photo. Photos you pick are copied into the app’s private storage. No photo is uploaded.
- Biometric — only if you turn on biometric unlock in settings. Used only to unlock the app locally.
When data does leave your phone
Two features can send your data outside the app, but only when you trigger them:
- PDF export — when you tap “save as PDF”, the app generates a PDF of your diary and saves it to your phone’s Downloads folder. Where the file goes from there is up to you.
- Backup (.json) — when you tap “backup”, the app creates a JSON file with your data and opens the system share sheet so you can save it to Google Drive, email, or any other location of your choice.
The app never initiates any of these on its own.
Children’s data
The app is not designed for or directed at children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect any data from children — and as stated above, the developer does not collect any data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the policy changes, the updated date at the top will reflect that. Material changes will be summarized in the app’s update notes.
